My first day with a DSLR all to myself is quite eventful.

Gary spent an hour today explaining to me the functions Pentax *ist DL. I was very excited to learn how to operate DSLR manually, I was excited just to hold it in my hands. After the tutorial, we hanged out in the SUB for a while, sitting with 5 other LEers at a very small table, then I had to run.

I went home first, and Rasco greet the camera happily. He was adorable, so I took out the camera wanting to take a picture of him. When I look through the viewfinder, I saw a small black dot at the right bottom corner. I tested a few time to see if it shows on the picture, but it did not. I did not want to clean the camera lense by myself, especially without the proper tool, so I left it, but I was worrying abou tit the whole day.

I took more shots when I was back from the rainy Richmond, then I was ready to upload my photos, so I can see them better on computer screen. That's when  I realized: I don't have a SD reader. I have no idea what kind of household this is to not have a standard SD reader, but this house does have many SONY memory card readers though.

Anywayz, good thing I have Yifu! He lend me a SD reader at dinner (which I forogt about and almost left it in the resturant), so I could finally start my viewing process. But NOOOO~ nothing is that easy. Then I learnt one more harsh fact about DSLR; raw file can only be accessed if one has photoshop CS2 and the compatitable raw software with it. The worst thing is, I did not learn this fast. In fact, it took me 3 hours sitting in front of computer, talking to friendly people who tried helping me, and researching on the internet. Finally, i gave up.

I went up stairs, took some shots in Jpeg format, looked at them for a while on computer. I am now more puzzled than ever.

350 for a used camera
600 for a brand new higher level camera (but its in US, and I probably won't make it to the sale)

Will I want to upgrade in the future?
Will I be content with this entry level SLR?

I should be content, this is a much better camera than what I had, at a reasonable price as well;
but I also don't want to regret, knowing that I might be throwing 300 dollars down the drain.

What choice do I have anywayz, I don't have that kind of money to buy the "perfect" DSLR for entertainment purposes. My choice is between wasted $300 now, or don't. So, the war between Wants and Needs begins.
